About RxCarbon – Pioneering Safer Drug Waste Disposal
Our Story
Since 2003, Waste & Compliance Management Inc. (WCM) has been committed to making regulated waste compliance simple and affordable. We started with just three products and have grown our WasteWise® brand into a portfolio of over a dozen trusted compliance tools. Our journey has always been grounded in solving real-world challenges that healthcare workers face daily. As we observed serious problems like illegal narcotic diversion and surface contamination from hazardous oncology drugs, we knew we had to respond.
That insight led to the development of RxCarbon®—a practical, cost-effective product line designed to help facilities meet and exceed compliance standards such as USP <800>, OSHA, EPA, and DEA regulations. From activated carbon-impregnated surface pads to spill response products, RxCarbon products are built with frontline healthcare professionals in mind.
Built on Innovation and Responsibility
At the heart of RxCarbon’s success is our proprietary RP718 pharmaceutical-grade activated carbon. It’s not just about adsorption—it’s about deactivation, preventing environmental contamination and illegal diversion at the source. We saw a need for an accessible, reliable way to safely contain hazardous and controlled drug waste, and we answered with a solution that is validated, tested, and backed by science.
We’re not just a product manufacturer—we’re problem solvers, innovators, and advocates for safer workplaces. Our pads, mats, and wipes are used inside sharps, RCRA hazardous, and non-hazardous containers to provide a final line of defense against drug diversion and environmental damage.
Expert Validation of RxCarbon’s Effectiveness
Industry professionals and researchers recognize the value RxCarbon brings to the table. For instance, Renee A., Pharmacy Manager at Riddle Hospital – Main Line Health System, shared that her staff uses RxCarbon Pads inside pharmaceutical waste containers to make compliance easier while meeting DEA non-divertible standards.
Thomas H. Connor, PhD—a hazardous drug researcher with NIOSH for 20 years—has emphasized that activated carbon is highly effective in binding hazardous drugs and recommends RxCarbon for its unique ability to reduce surface contamination and exposure risk. He notes that once adsorbed onto activated carbon, hazardous drugs are incredibly difficult to remove—even with strong solvents.
Charlotte A. Smith, R.Ph., M.S., further supports the product, highlighting its use during compounding and in spill kits as a simple, cost-effective step in protecting both staff and patients. These expert endorsements reinforce the scientific and regulatory trust behind every RxCarbon product.
Trusted Protection for Patients, Workers, and the Environment
RxCarbon isn’t just a safety product—it’s peace of mind. Whether it’s preventing hazardous spills in compounding rooms or stopping illicit drug diversion at the source, our products are designed to be easy to use, cost-effective, and highly efficient. With a 90% cost reduction compared to other diversion prevention systems, RxCarbon proves that you don’t have to compromise quality for affordability.
With increasing scrutiny on hazardous drug handling, facilities need proactive, proven strategies to remain compliant and protect their staff. RxCarbon answers that call with products engineered for real-world application and validated by those who understand the challenges firsthand.
